What is the best time of year to visit Ohakune?

Ohakune is a great destination to visit throughout the year, with each season offering something different.

Winter (June-September) is popular for skiing and snowboarding at Turoa Ski Area, with visitors coming to enjoy the snow and mountain activities.

Spring and Summer (October-April) are ideal for exploring the outdoors, including mountain biking, hiking, walking tracks, and the stunning scenery around Mt Ruapehu and Tongariro National Park.

Autumn (April-May) is a beautiful time to visit, with cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and colourful native landscapes.

The best time to visit depends on what you would like to experience, skiing, cycling, hiking, or simply enjoying the beauty of the Ruapehu region.

How far are you from the town and restaurants?

We are approximately a 10-minute walk from Ohakune town Centre, where you will find a range of cafes, restaurants, and local shops.

Do you provide shuttle service to Tongariro National park and the Ski Field?

Yes, we work with Dempsey Buses and can arrange shuttle service Tongariro Alpine Crossing and the ski field on request. Guests can also contact Dempsey Buses directly to make their own booking: https://www.dempseybuses.co.nz/

What is the pick-up spot for Dempsey Buses?

It is by the The Hobbit™ Motorlodge. Pick up time is 6:40am for The Tongariro Crossing shuttle.

How far is Tūroa Ski Field from The Hobbit™ Motorlodge?

We are 17kms or approximately 20 minutes’ drive away from the ski field.

Where can I hire ski and snowboard equipment in Ohakune?

Ski and snowboard equipment can be hire from several local rental shops in Ohakune, including TCB Ski Board & Bike, SLR Ski & Board rental and The Ski Shed.

What are the popular biking tracks in Ohakune?

Old Coach Road, Ohakune Mountain road, Te Hangaruru Trail, Bridge to Nowhere and 42 Traverse are some of the most popular cycling experiences in the Ruapehu region.

Can hire bikes be booked in via the motel?

Yes, we can book hire bikes for you on request.

Is there a space to store our bikes? Is there any extra charge for storing the bikes?

Yes, we have a closed garage to store your bikes at NO EXTRA cost. Bike washdown facilities are also available, if required.

Do you have an EV charger for cars?

Yes, we have EV charger station outside the reception office. This can be arranged with the reception at an additional cost.

Do you have car parking?

Yes, we provide free car parking to all of our guests. We also have ample space for trailers and trucks to park.

Is access to outdoor spa pool chargeable?

No. Just book in a slot with the reception and jump into the spa pool.

Do your rooms come with a Spa tub?

Only our luxury suite rooms (18,19) come with a Spa tub inside the room. For other rooms we have the outdoor spa pool available.

Do you have WIFI?

Yes. complimentary WIFI is available throughout the motel for all guests.

Which room provides a best mountain view?

Our upstairs room no. 17 (mountain view studio), 18 and 19 (suites)

Do you have any special packages that guests can book?

Is your property pet friendly?

Yes, we have a studio unit which can accommodate up to 2 X dogs with an additional cost of $25 per night. The guests need to sign a pet registration form and this needs to be arranged directly with our reception. Pet request is subject to availability.

Do you have guest Laundry?

Yes, we have guest laundry in our lodge building at a cost of $6 per wash. Laundry powder can be bought from the reception at $1.
